This black bean dip recipe is super delicious and so easy and quick to make. This dip is made with canned black beans, fresh jalapenos, garlic, and red onions, and all the tasty seasonings. When topped with cilantro, cotija cheese, and hot sauce, this dip is very addicting- especially when paired with a bag of tortilla chips. It's the perfect snack and appetizer and also makes a great addition to tacos and burritos!
Savory, Spicy, and So Delicious
You know what my favorite food is? Beans. Yep, that's right. So this recipe is right up my alley, and I didn't struggle to make multiple batches when recipe testing.
This black bean dip is so quick and easy to make that it's perfect for a quick weeknight snack. Despite how easy it is to make, it's also fancy enough to be served a weekend get-together- especially when all the toppings are added.
Serve it as an appetizer with tortilla chips or make it for Tuesday taco night. It would be excellent spread on a burrito or taco. You really just can't go wrong when you're serving up this bean dip!

β½ Butter: Originally, I didn't have butter in the recipe, but I quickly changed my mind once I tried the butter version. Butter not only contributes to the flavor, but it also makes the bean dip the perfect consistency.
β½ Red Onion, Jalapenos, + Garlic: These vegetables add in great fresh flavor plus some spiciness. You can't beat this trio!
β½ Black Beans: To make this recipe quick and easy, I use canned black beans. You could also used dried black beans that have been soaked overnight and boiled until tender.
β½ Lime Juice: Adds some tang to this dip. Freshly squeezed lime juice will give you the best tasting dip!
β½ Seasonings: Cayenne, Chili Powder, Cumin, Smoked Paprika, kosher Salt
β½ Hot Sauce: Adds a bit of extra spiciness and flavor to the dip.
β½ Cilantro: If you think cilantro tastes like soap, you can leave it out, but as a huge cilantro fan, it makes the dip so good.
β½ Toppings: On top of this dip, I like to sprinkle on some cotija cheese, hot sauce, and fresh cilantro leaves. These toppings make the dip taste extra good and makes the dip look pretty!
How to Make Best Black Bean Dip
β In a non-stick skillet, melt 4 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Add in 1/2 cup chopped red onion and 2 chopped jalapenos. You can leave in the peppers' seeds for a spicer dip or remove them. Cook for about 5 minutes to soften the vegetables, but do not brown. Add in 2 minced garlic cloves and continue to cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant. Remove from heat.
β In a food processor, add in cooked onions + jalapenos with the butter, 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice, 1 teaspoon hot sauce, 2 teaspoons cumin powderc, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne, and 1/3 cup packed chopped cilantro leaves. Process until well combined. You may need to use a spatula and push down the dip on the sides halfway through processing so it all gets mixed in well.
β Pile into a serving bowl, and top with cotija cheese, cilantro, and/or hot sauce drizzle, if desired.
