Cream, Spicy, Tangy, & Delicious

This has been my go-to dip for a long time now. It's so simple to throw together that I make it every single time we are having taco night in our house. It's not Taco Tuesday without it!

✽ Avocado: The avocado will make this dip oh so creamy, add in that beautiful green color, and bring in a bit of flavor.

✽ Red Onion: To me, red or purple onion is essential in this dip. It adds in some sharpness that makes the dip addicting.

✽ Jalapeno: Not only does the jalapeno add such great flavor, it is the reason why this sauce is spicy. Keep in the seeds for a spicier dip or remove them if you'd like it to be milder.

✽ Garlic: Garlic is a must. I went for 1 garlic clove, but if you are a huge garlic lover, you can definitely add more to your liking.

✽ Cilantro: The cilantro leaves brings in some freshness and citrus. If you are one of those people that doesn't enjoy cilantro, it can be left out.

✽ Sour Cream: The sour cream makes this dip even more creamier and works with the lime juice to add a bit of tang.

✽ Spices: Salt, Cumin

✽ Lime Juice: Lime juice adds brightness, citrus, and tang to make a well balanced dip.

How to Make Avocado Jalapeno Dip

➊ This recipe really couldn't be easier. Once you get the 1 avocado peeled and roughly chopped, 1/4th of a red onion, 1 jalapeno, and 1 garlic clove are also roughly chopped. The pieces just need to be small enough to fit inside of a food processor or blender. I use my mini food processor, and it's the perfect size for this recipe.

For the 1/2 cup cilantro leaves, it's okay to have a few small stems since they will get completely blended in the processor. The produce, 1/4 cup sour cream, 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/4 teaspoon cumin, and juice from 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons) are put into the processor and blended until it is fully combined and smooth.

If you like a creamier dip, you can add in a couple more spoonfuls of sour cream. As always, the quantities of the spices can be adjusted to fit your taste.

Avocado Jalapeno Dip: Questions

✽ How long can you store dip leftovers?

This dip is best served immediately after it is made, but any leftovers can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two days.

I recommend covering the top of the dip bowl with plastic wrap with the plastic actually touching the avocado dip. This will help prevent air from reaching the avocado in the dip and help prevent it from turning brown.

✽ Can I remove the seeds from the jalapenos?

Absolutely! Removing the seeds from the jalapenos is a perfect way to reduce the heat of this dip without sacrificing great taste.

✽ What do I eat with avocado jalapeno dip?

The better question would be 'what do you not eat with avocado jalapeno dip?' I like to eat this dip with fresh tortilla chips. I also put it on tacos, nachos, loaded fries, burritos, taco bowls, salads, and grilled chicken!

Ingredients

• 1 avocado, peeled and roughly chopped
• 1/4 red onion, roughly chopped
• 1 jalapeno, roughly chopped
• 1 garlic clove, roughly chopped
• 1/2 cup cilantro leaves, loosely packed
• 1/4 cup sour cream
• 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
• 1/4 teaspoon cumin
• Juice from 1 lime, about 2 tablespoons

Instructions

In a food processor or blender, add all ingredients and blend until fully combined and smooth.

Notes

Creaminess: If you want a more creamy dip, add in a spoonful or two more of sour cream.

Spiciness: I like to keep the seeds in the jalapeno. If you don't want it to be as spicy, de-seed the jalapeno before throwing it into the processor.

Leftovers: Cover the top of any leftovers with plastic wrap actually touching the dip to keep the dip green. When the plastic is touching the dip, this prevents air from reaching the avocado and prevents it from turning brown. This dip can stay in the fridge for up to two days after making it.
