These Halloween Roaches do not just look like creepy bugs, they also are absolutely delicious! The dried dates are filled with goat cheese and wrapped in prosciutto. I like to cut additional dried dates to make antennae and legs to give those eating these appetizers a real fright. These tasty roaches are perfect for spooky season and Halloween parties!

Halloween Roaches- Goat Cheese and Prosciutto Dates

Creepy, Crawly, and Delicious

Happy week of Halloween! I love insects, but I absolutely cannot stand roaches! They give me the ultimate creeps.

These date roaches are so life-like with their six little legs, antennae, and guts (AKA: goat cheese). When the roaches are squished, the goat cheese pops out just like a real roach!

The prosciutto adds deliciousness and crispiness. These roaches are sure to give people a fright and a treat!

I made these Halloween roaches for the movie, Hotel Transylvania because they have a big bowl of cockroach paste sitting on their buffet table!

Halloween Roaches: Ingredients

Pitted Dried Dates: These will be the bodies of the roaches. The additional dried dates are cut into thin strips for the legs and antennae. Make sure the dates are pitted so they can be filled with goat cheese and are easier to eat as a whole.

✽ Goat Cheese: I use plain goat cheese to stuff the inside of the dried dates, but you could also used a flavored goat cheese too!

✽ Prosciutto: While not completely necessary to add, it adds great flavor and, when baked in the oven for a few minutes, adds crispiness to these dates. The prosciutto, goat cheese, and dates pair all so well together.

How to Make Goat Cheese Prosciutto Dates

➊ Cut a slit on one side of the 8 dried dates. If your dates have pits, remove the pit. Fill the inside of the dates with goat cheese. You should be able to put about 1/2 ounce of goat cheese into each pitted date.

Cut the prosciutto pieces into 4" x 3" rectangles. Fold the prosciutto so it will fit on the bottom of each date. Using a toothpick, secure the prosciutto to cover the slit in the dates. Place the dates on a baking sheet and bake for 3-5 minutes at 350°F until the prosciutto is crispy.

➋ Once the dates are cool enough to handle, form holes in the dates using a toothpick- 2 in the front (on the head) for the antennae and 3 on each side of the date for the legs.

Using the leftover dates, cut thin strips. Push the thin strips into the holes you formed with the toothpick. Voilà! A delicious spooky Halloween roach!

Sparkling Strawberry Gin; To keep up with the Hotel Transylvania theme, serve these roaches with this sparkling strawberry gin. It's my version of Dracula's Blood Beaters. With some blood beaters and creepy date roaches, you are sure to have the perfect Hotel Transylvania movie night!

Avocado Jalapeno Dip; Dips are the perfect next to finger foods! This avocado jalapeno dip is creamy, the perfect color of green, and spicy!

Halloween Snack Board; These roaches would be perfect displayed on a Halloween snack board with all the other fun spooky snacks!

Ingredients

• 12 pitted dried dates
• 4 ounces goat cheese
• 2-4 slices prosciutto

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F.
➋ Cut a slit down one side of 8 dried dates, and evenly fill the dates full of goat cheese.
➌ Cut a piece of prosciutto into about a 4" x 3" rectangle. Fold the prosciutto in half. Using a toothpick, adhere the prosciutto to the bottom side of the roach.
➍ Bake the roaches on a baking sheet for 3-5 minutes just until the prosciutto becomes crispy.
Using the extra 4 dried dates, cut thin strips. These will be the roaches' legs and antennae. You will need six legs and two antennae for each roach.
➏ Once the dates are cool enough to hand, use a toothpick to prick small holes into the dried date. 3 small holes on the left side, 3 small holes on the right side, and two small holes in the front. Carefully insert the small strips of dried date into the holes.
