Gin and Tonic Jello Shots Recipe

A classic gin & tonic inside of a jello shot.

I am a huge gin fan, but I rarely ever see shots and Jello shots made with gin. After tasting how good these gin and tonic jello shots are, I have no idea why they aren't more common. All the delicious flavors of a classic gin and tonic are inside these shots, and I'm here for it. If you love a good juniper flavored shot with a slight tang then these shots are for you. They are perfect for any kind of party and for kicking off the weekend!

✽ Unflavored Gelatin Powder: I decided to use unflavored gelatin so I could be in complete control of all the flavors. I wanted these shots to taste as close to the real deal as possible so I didn't want to have any artificial flavors from a box of Jello.

✽ Tonic Water: Gin and tonic water go hand-in-hand. The flavor of the juniper berries from the gin tastes so good with the quinine from the tonic water. Make sure you are using tonic water and NOT club soda water or sparkling water.

✽ Fresh Lime Juice: A little bit of lime juice in these gin shots will add just the right amount of tang to create a perfectly balanced shot. Freshly squeezed lime juice is going to taste the best!

✽ Sugar: Since this recipe uses unflavored gelatin, a little bit of sugar is needed so they aren't too bitter. Sipping a slightly bitter drink is great, but I feel like Jello shots need to have a bit of sweetness to them.

✽ Gin: The best part of a gin and tonic! I don't necessarily recommend using your finest and best gin to make Jello shots. Even the cheap stuff will taste good! However, if you just really like the taste of your fancy favorite gin then by all means, go for it! While there are many great options for gin, my favorite bottle of gin is Beefeater London Dry Gin.

✽ Lime Wedge: To make these jello shots super cute, garnish each shot glass with a small lime wedge or lime slice.

How to Make Gin and Tonic Jell-O Shots

➊ In a medium bowl or large measuring cup, sprinkle 1 package unflavored gelatin powder (1 envelope of Knox gelatin) on top of 1/4 cup room temperature tonic water. Let sit for 5-10 mins.

➌ Stir in 1 cup gin.

➍ Pour gelatin mixture into 10 2-ounce Jello shot cups (or 2-ounce condiment plastic cups). I like to place all of my shots on a baking sheet or cookie sheet so they are easier to transport. Place shots in the fridge for about 3-4 hours, or until set.

➎ Right before serving, garnish each shot with a small lime wedge. Cheers!

Gin and Tonic Jello Shots: Questions

✽ Can I add more alcohol than the recipe calls for to get stronger shots?

I don't recommend adding more gin than the recipe calls for because you may run the risk of the shots not setting properly. Stick with one cup of water and one cup alcohol for the best results.

✽ Do these shots glow in the dark?

Well they don't glow in the dark, but they do glow underneath a black light! The quinine in the tonic water undergoes fluorescence when it absorbs UV light. Since this jello mixture is made with tonic water, they should glow a bright blue color.

This makes these glowing shots perfect for a spooky Halloween party!
