VANILLA, BUTTERSCOTCH, & VANILLA
I'm sure you've seen 100 candy corn Jell-O shot recipes before. I've never actually made them before until I started creating this recipe because I always felt weird about a candy corn colored shot that tasted of orange and lemon. Seems strange, right? So, I set off on a mission to create a candy corn-colored shot that actually tastes like a candy corn. And guess what?? It actually tastes quite a bit like a candy corn! It's made with vanilla vodka, butterscotch schnapps, honey, and whipped cream for the perfect combination.
This shot was created for my Children of the Corn Halloween night! We had these candy corn shots and popcorn balls for everything corn-themed!
CANDY CORN JELL-O SHOT INGREDIENTS
• Unflavored Gelatin: In order to be in complete control of the flavor of these shots, I opted to use unflavored gelatin.
• Honey: Instead of sugar, I used honey since honey is used to make actual candy corns.
• Vanilla Vodka: This brings in the vanilla flavor and the booze!
• Butterscotch Schanpps: Adds some sweetness, big flavor, and booze to these shots.
• Red and Yellow Food Coloring: To get the most beautiful candy corn shot!
• Whipped Cream: Not only does this provide the white of the candy corn, but it also adds a creamy flavor!
HOW TO MAKE CANDY CORN JELL-O SHOTS
First, make the yellow vanilla layer of the Jell-O shot. Sprinkle 1 package (~1 tablespoon) of unflavored gelatin on 1/4 cup of cold water in a medium bowl, and let sit 5 minutes. Beat 1 tablespoon of honey into 1/2 cup of boiling water. Now beat the hot honey water into the gelatin. Stir in 1/2 cup of vanilla vodka and a few drops of yellow food coloring. Split between 10 2-ounce shot glasses. Each one should fill up about halfway. Place all shots into the fridge for about 2 hours until set.
Now on to the orange butterscotch layer! Repeat the same steps as above except this time stir in 1/2 cup of butterscotch schnapps, 2 drops of red food coloring, and 5 drops of yellow food coloring until you get an orange color. Pour into the 10 shot glasses with the set yellow layer until each shot is almost filled up to the top. Chill in fridge for another 2 hours until set.
Right before serving the candy corn shots, place a dollop of whipped cream on top. If desired, place a single candy corn on top of the whipped cream. Cheers!
WHAT TO SERVE WITH CANDY CORN JELL-O SHOTS
• Popcorn Balls; Keep up with the Children of the Corn theme and make these popcorn balls! Enjoy a scary movie with everything corn-themed!
CANDY CORN JELL-O SHOTS QUESTIONS
What flavor are candy corns? Candy corns have vanilla, sugar, honey, and butter flavors. Using vanilla vodka and butterscotch really make these fall flavors pop. I also used honey instead of sugar and the whipped cream really help make these Jell-O shots taste like a candy corn! Why do you soak the gelatin in cold water first? Allowing the gelatin powder to soak in cold water is called blooming. The gelatin will absorb the water and the granules will become bigger. This step is to ensure that your Jell-O shots will have a smooth texture. When the soaked gelatin is heated, the gelatin will then dissolve easily. If you added the gelatin powder directly to a hot liquid, you would get lumps.
