Caramel Green Apple Jello Shots Recipe

All the flavors of a caramel apple inside of a Jello shot.

When I had sour apple schnapps for the first time, I immediately fell in love. It's so good! If you are a fan of green apple candy then this liqueur is a must to have inside of your liquor cabinet at all times.

Then one day I paired the sour apple schnapps with caramel vodka, and I fell even more in love. The green apple and caramel pair so well together. There's a reason why caramel apples have been around for so long! That flavor combination just works.

I could enjoy these amazing caramel apple Jello shots any day of any month, but these shots are a true fan favorite around that spooky time of year. Make a batch for those cool fall days or for your next Halloween party. You'll be everybody's favorite person if you do!

Plus, these shots are a lot easier and faster to make than actual caramel apples making them the perfect way to get your caramel apple fix without all the trouble! But I don't want to knock actual caramel apples, they also hold a special place in my fall-loving heart.

✽ Green Apple Gelatin Powder: This green apple gelatin is so good and so flavorful! I love it. It also gives these shots that beautiful green color.

For these Jello shots, I used Sonic Green Apple Gelatin. Make note that their package is 3.94 oz big which is different than most brands of gelatin. See the notes below the recipe card if using a 3 oz box of gelatin (such as Jolly Rancher Green Apple).

✽ Water: We will whisk in boiling water to ensure that all of the gelatin is dissolved prior to chilling. Even with adding in 1 1/2 cup of water, these shots are still very flavorful and still pack a punch.

✽ Caramel Vodka: In my opinion, caramel vodka is one of the best flavored vodkas out there- especially when in combination with sour apple! I find that it has really great caramel flavor.

Some good brands are Veil Caramel Vodka, Smirnoff Kissed Caramel, and Stolichnaya Salted Karamel.

✽ Sour Apple Schnapps: The added sour apple flavor makes these shots extra tasty and sour! Two brands are DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker Schnapps and Mr Stacks Sour Apple Schnapps

✽ Caramel Sauce: During the fall season, I add caramel sauce to pretty much everything. A caramel sauce rim on the shot glass tastes so good with these Jello shots. I like Ghirardelli Caramel Sauce and Torani Caramel Sauce the best! Or if you are feeling really ambitious, try out my homemade caramel sauce!

✽ Green Apple: Placing a small slice of green apple on the shot glass rim as a garnish adds some freshness to the shot.

Besides the great taste, the fresh apples and caramel sauce makes these shots super cute!

How to Make Caramel Apple Jello Shots

➊ In a medium bowl or large measuring cup, whisk 1 1/2 cups of boiling water into the 3.94 oz of green apple gelatin powder (*see notes below the recipe card if using a 3 oz gelatin packet). Continue whisking until gelatin is dissolved, about 2 minutes.

➌ Pour Jello mixture into 16 2-ounce plastic Jello shot cups. I like to put all of my shots on a shallow baking pan or cookie sheet so it's easier to transport them. Chill in fridge for about 4 hours or until firm.

➍ Prior to serving, put a few tablespoons of caramel sauce onto a plate and dip the rims of the shot cups into caramel sauce so the rims are coated in caramel. Garnish with a small slice of fresh green apple. Cheers!

Fall Caramel Apple Jello Shot Recipe: Questions

✽ What if I am using a 3 oz package of green apple gelatin (Jolly Rancher) instead of the 3.94 oz green apple gelatin (Sonic)?

It's important to pay attention to how much gelatin powder you are in your package so that your Jello shots set correctly. I wrote this recipe for the 3.94 oz Sonic green apple gelatin box so if that's what you have, follow the recipe as written!

If you have a 3 oz box of gelatin, you will need to whisk in 1 cup of boiling to the 3 oz of gelatin powder until gelatin is dissolved. Then whisk in 3/4 cup caramel vodka and 1/4 cup sour apple schnapps. You should get about 10 2-ounce disposable shot glasses worth.

✽ Do I need to add the sour apple schnapps?

I like the sour apple schnapps because it adds in even more sourness and green apple flavor which I love. However, because the gelatin is already green apple flavor, you could just add in caramel vodka. So instead of 1 cup of caramel vodka and 1/2 cup of sour apple schnapps, you would whisk in 1 1/2 cups of caramel vodka instead.

✽ Can I add more liquor than the recipe calls for?

I don't recommend adding more vodka than the recipe calls for because you may run the risk of the shots not setting properly.
