SWEET, VANILLA-FLAVORED, & BOOZY
There was a time in my life that I was obsessed with Italian Cream Sodas. Others would go to the coffee shops to get the iced coffee, and all I wanted was a homemade soda. One day I decided to figure out how to make them at home, and they really could not be easier to create. Best news ever! All you really need is some sugar, cream, and bubbly water. You can add whatever flavors to the simple syrup and make it your own. I usually just go for vanilla though. It's simple and oh so tasty. This specific recipe has whipped cream vodka to make it extra flavorful and boozy!
BOOZY ITALIAN CREAM SODA INGREDIENTS
• Sugar + Water + Vanilla Extract: The sugar and water are combined to make a simple syrup. Vanilla extract is added to make vanilla simple syrup. The higher quality vanilla extract you use, the better the simple syrup will taste.
• Whipped Cream Vodka: Either whipping cream vodka or vanilla vodka will work here, but I prefer the whipping cream flavor more.
• Club Soda: Adds the bubbly to the soda. You can also substitute with selzter or sparkling water.
• Heavy Cream: A bit of heavy cream will make this soda creamy and delicious.
HOW TO MAKE BOOZY ITALIAN CREAM SODA
To make the vanilla simple syrup, mix together 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of water in a small saucepan. Put over medium heat, and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves. As soon as the sugar dissolves, remove from heat and add in 1/2 Tablespoon of vanilla extract. Let cool for about 15 minutes.
In a large cocktail glass filled with ice, add 2 ounces whipped cream vodka, 1 ounce of vanilla simple syrup, and then 12 ounces of club soda. Give it a quick stir then add in 1 ounce of heavy cream. Mix well. Cheers!
BOOZY ITALIAN CREAM SODA QUESTIONS
Can I make a different flavor besides vanilla? Yes! You can flavor you simple syrup with any kind of extract. Or you can buy premade flavored syrups, such as Torani, and use those as well. You can also try different flavors of vodka.
What's the difference between club soda, seltzer water, sparkling water, and tonic water? Seltzer water is plain water with carbon dioxide added to it. A lot of the flavored bubbly waters you buy at the grocery stores are seltzer waters. Club soda is water with carbon dioxide added to it as well, but it also has potassium bicarbonate and potassium sulfate added to it. Sparkling mineral water is made with natural spring water and has naturally occurring minerals in it. Sometimes it is naturally carbonated and sometimes carbon dioxide is added as well to increase the bubbliness. Tonic water is carbonated water that has quinine and sugar added. While you may prefer one's taste over the other, any of these will provide the carbonation we are looking for in this Italian cream soda recipe.
