These watermelon tequila shots are the best summer shots! They have so much watermelon flavor because they are made with both watermelon juice and watermelon vodka. Some tequila is added in and the salt on the rim makes this watermelon shot recipe perfect. Great for summer parties, hot days, and chilling by the pool!

Nothing quite says summer like a nice, fresh, and cold watermelon. I do believe I could eat an entire watermelon all by myself in one sitting. Though, I usually try to save some back to puree to make fun drinks with the juice.
During all my drink adventures, I've found that tequila is exceptionally good with watermelon. These shots combine the flavors of watermelon, tequila, and salt- the perfect combination.
And while these shots, watermelon Jello shots, and watermelon margaritas are my favorite summer treats, they are delicious no matter what time of the year. They are a surefire way to make sure your guests are happy at your next party. These watermelon shots are super quick and easy with simple ingredients to make so let's get to it!
Best Watermelon Shot Recipe: Ingredients

✽ Tequila: I like to use blanco tequila or silver tequila rather than gold tequila for these shots. The better quality of tequila you use, the better the shots. However, you can use whatever tequila you have on hand. These shots will still be good whether cheap or fancy tequila is used!
✽ Watermelon Vodka: I chose to use watermelon-flavored vodka so that the tequila did not overpower the watermelon juice flavor. Watermelon vodka is one of my favorite flavored vodkas, and it tastes so good in this shot.
Some good brands are Absolut Watermelon, Veil Watermelon Vodka, Ciroc Vodka Summer Watermelon, and Bishop Arts Watermelon Vodka.
✽ Watermelon Juice: You can go two routes here- fresh or store-bought juice. If you use fresh watermelon juice, the shot won't be as sweet. Store-bought watermelon fruit juices have a bunch of added sugar so if you go that route, you will end up with a much sweeter shot.
If I use store-bought, I either use Minute Maid Watermelon Fruit Drink or Tropicana Watermelon Breeze Juice Drink.
✽ Sea Salt: Tequila and salt go hand-in-hand. I also enjoy a sprinkling of salt on my fresh watermelon slices. So the salt rim on these shots is a must and makes them even tastier.
✽ Watermelon Slices: Lastly, I like to add a small watermelon slice to the rim of the shot glasses. A nice sweet snack after taking the tequila shot!
You could also garnish with a lime wedge as well since tequila and lime slices go so well together.
How to Make Tequila Watermelon Shots
➊ In a cocktail shaker, combine two cubes of ice, 1/2 ounce silver tequila, 1/2 ounce of watermelon vodka, and 1/2 ounce watermelon juice. You can also make multiple watermelon shots at a time. Just make sure you keep the ratio of tequila to vodka to juice the same= 1:1:1. Shake until chilled, about 10 seconds.
If you skip the shaker part, you'll end up with a room temperature shot. It's not bad, but the chilled version is much better, in my opinion.
➋ Run a small watermelon slice along the rim of the shot glass. Then dip and roll the rim of the glass into a pile of sea salt.
➌ Strain the watermelon shot into the prepared salted shot glass. Garnish with a small watermelon slice. Cheers!
Watermelon Shots with Tequila: Questions
✽ Can I use plain vodka for these shots?
You can, but the watermelon flavor of the shots will not be nearly as strong. I highly recommend grabbing a bottle of watermelon vodka for these shots. Plus, it's a great flavored vodka to have on hand for other drinks!
✽ Can I turn this shot into a watermelon cocktail?
Yes! You can adjust the amounts of the ingredients to your liking, but a good starting point would be 1 ounce watermelon vodka, 1 ounce tequila, and 4 ounces watermelon juice. Combine in a cocktail shaker with some ice, and shake until chilled. Dip the rim of a martini glass into some sea salt, strain the watermelon drink into the glass, and garnish with a watermelon slice or watermelon chunks! You could also dip the glass in green sugar (to resemble a watermelon rind) for a sweeter treat that is perfect for a hot summer day!

Ingredients
• 1/2 ounce silver tequila
• 1/2 ounce watermelon vodka
• 1/2 ounce watermelon juice
• Sea salt, for rim
• Small watermelon slice, for garnish
Instructions
➊ In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, watermelon vodka, and watermelon juice with two ice cubes. Shake until chilled, about 10 seconds.
➋ Run a small watermelon slice along the rim of the shot glass then dip and roll the rim into a pile of sea salt.
➌ Strain watermelon shot into the salted shot glass.
➍ Garnish the shot with a small slice of watermelon. Cheers!
