I am so in love with the fruit juice and tamarind combination! These watermelon shots are filled with all the watermelon flavor and has watermelon juice and watermelon vodka. Tamarind vodka is added in for a bit of spicy tangy flavor. The rim of the shot glass is covered in Chamoy and Tajin for the perfect summer shot. This boozy treat tastes like watermelon Mexican candy and is so good!

Watermelon Tamarind Shots Recipe with Tajin

I can't get enough of the fruit juice + tamarind combination.

The first time I had tamarind vodka, I was immediately in love. This vodka is unique, and I find myself wanting to add it to everything. Which is always a good idea! It pairs especially well with lots of fruity flavors.

These shots remind me of watermelon Mexican hard candy. The sweetness of the watermelon, the tanginess of the Tajin and Chamoy, and the spiciness and slight tartness of the tamarind pair so well together.

Since watermelon is the ultimate summer fruit, these pink shots are perfect for summer parties, a hot day, kicking off the weekend, Cinco de Mayo, and good times.

✽ Tamarind Vodka: This vodka is a must for these shots. It adds so much flavor and makes them taste amazing. It makes for the best Mexican candy shot.

I use Smirnoff Tamarind Vodka. I am now able to find it at most liquor stores.

✽ Watermelon Vodka: I chose to use watermelon-flavored vodka so that these shots have maximum watermelon flavor. Watermelon vodka is one of my favorite flavored vodkas. It's great to always have on hand for those summer cocktails and shots.

Some good brands are Absolut Watermelon, Veil Watermelon Vodka, Ciroc Vodka Summer Watermelon, and Bishop Arts Watermelon Vodka.

If you can't find watermelon vodka, you can also use watermelon schnapps in its place. This will give you a more sour and sweeter shot. Both ways are delicious. Popular brands include Mr Stacks Watermelon Schnapps and DeKuyper Watermelon Pucker Schnapps.

✽ Watermelon Juice: You can either use store-bought watermelon juice or fresh watermelon juice. If you use fresh, your shot will not be as sweet, but it will still be tasty. If using fresh, the easiest way to get rid of the pulp is to run the juice through a fine mesh strainer before adding to the cocktail shaker. If using store-bought, the shot will be a lot sweeter due to the added sugars in most store-bought watermelon juices.

If I use store-bought, I either use Minute Maid Watermelon Fruit Drink or Tropicana Watermelon Breeze Juice Drink.

✽ Chamoy: Chamoy is a sweet and spicy sauce that's made from dried fruit (usually apricot, mango, or plums), chili powder, salt, sugar, and citrus. It taste really good when paired with watermelon and other fresh fruit. I like to eat it on top of my fresh watermelon slices as much as I like it with these shots.

✽ Tajin Seasoning: Tajin has similar flavors to Chamoy, but it's a seasoned salt rather than a sauce. It is made with chili peppers, lime, and sea salt. The Tajin and Chamoy rim really make these shots worth talking about.

✽ Watermelon Slice: Lastly, I like to garnish the shots with a small slice of watermelon if it is watermelon season. That fresh flavor is the perfect way to chase the shot! Alternatively, you could also garnish with a fresh lime wedge.

How to Make Best Watermelon Shots

➊ First thing to do is to shake the ingredients together with ice. In a cocktail shaker, combine two cubes of ice, 1/2 oz watermelon vodka, 1/2 oz of tamarind vodka, and 1/2 oz watermelon juice. You can also make multiple watermelon shots at a time. Just make sure you keep the ratio of tamarind vodka to watermelon vodka to watermelon juice the same= 1:1:1. Shake until chilled, about 10 seconds.

If you skip the shaker part, you'll end up with a room temperature shot. It's not bad, but the chilled version is much better, in my opinion.

βž‹ Dip the rim of the shot glass in some Chamoy. Then dip the rim of the glass into a pile of Tajin until coated.

➌ Strain the watermelon shot into the prepared shot glass. Garnish the edge of your shot glass with small watermelon wedges or watermelon chunks. Cheers!

Watermelon Vodka Shots with Tamarind: Questions

✽ Can I use plain vodka for these shots?

I don't recommend it. The tamarind vodka brings in so much flavor that it is necessary. The watermelon vodka also helps bring in that watermelon flavor so the tamarind vodka doesn't overpower the shot.

✽ How can I turn this watermelon shot into a watermelon tamarind cocktail?

It's easy to turn this shot recipe into a delicious drink! You can play with the amounts of the ingredients to your liking, but a good starting point would be 1 ounce of watermelon vodka, 1 ounce of tamarind vodka, and 4 ounces of watermelon juice. To make a stronger drink, add more liquor or decrease the amount of watermelon juice. A splash of fresh lime juice or lemon juice would also be really tasty added to this cocktail.

Shake the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, and strain into a Chamoy+Tajin-rimmed or sugared rim martini glass. Garnish with a watermelon slice and/or a lime wedge.
