Dried strawberries are a wonderful and tasty all natural snack. The best part about these strawberries is that you don't need a fancy dehydrator to make them. Just pop them in the oven, and you'll have a delicious fruit snack in a few hours! Perfect for an every day snack, as an addition to yogurt and granola, and for desserts.

Dried Strawberries in Oven Recipe

Tastes Sweet & Amazing; Smells Heavenly; Looks Pretty

The more I read and learn about food, the more I am tending to lean towards healthy and all natural snacks. I spent many years thinking I couldn't make dehydrated fresh fruit without a food dehydrator, but turns out I was wrong!

One day I had the idea to put sliced strawberries into the oven at a low temperature, and I'm so glad I did. The strawberries came out tasting amazing, and oh the smell! My whole kitchen smelled like a strawberry which was fantastic.

These dried strawberries are slightly chewy, sweet, and delicious. They are great on their own as a morning or afternoon healthy snack, a great addition to cereal, granola, or yogurt, and make adorable toppings and decorations for cakes and other desserts such as ice cream.

They are also great way to use up all those strawberries that have been sitting in your fridge for awhile!

Fresh Strawberries: The only ingredient you need to make this recipe is fresh whole strawberries! The strawberries will need to be cut into even slices so they bake evenly. Aim for a size between 1/8" to 1/4".

How to Make Oven Dehydrated Strawberries

➊ Preheat the oven to 180°F. You can still make this recipe if your oven only goes down to 200°F, but you will need to keep a closer eye on the strawberries so they don't burn.

Line a baking sheet (or multiple baking sheets depending on how many strawberries you are making) with parchment paper. The parchment paper is important so the strawberries do not stick. Do not use wax paper, silicone mats, or aluminum foil.

➋ Cut off the tops of the berries using a sharp knife. Now time to slice strawberries! It is important to try to slice the strawberries evenly so they all finish baking at the same time.

dehydrated sliced strawberries

I aim for a strawberry slice to be in between 1/8" to 1/4" inches thick. If your slices are thinner than that, they will become really thin and brittle in the oven and won't need as long of a baking time. Thicker slices will need to bake longer.

➌ Place the sliced strawberries on the parchment paper lined baking sheet in a single layer so that they do not touch each other. Use multiple baking sheets if you need to.

Bake the strawberries for about 2 hours. Peel the strawberries off the parchment paper and flip each strawberry slice over. Return to oven and continue baking for 30 minutes to 2 hours or until fully dried, checking every 10-15 minutes to ensure the slices are not burning.

I understand that this is a wide range of time, but every oven is different. The drying time also all depends on the exact thickness of your strawberry slices.

During the checking process, remove any strawberries that are fully dried (so they don't burn!) and continue to cook the rest until they are dried. The dried strawberries should not be soggy and should be stiff when you pick them up.

Dried Strawberry Recipe (Oven Method): Questions

✽ Can I use something other than parchment paper?

I wouldn't recommend it. For best results, always use parchment paper. The parchment paper prevents the strawberry slices from sticking and allows you to peel them off to flip them.

If using an un-lined baking sheet, aluminum foil, a silicone mat, or wax paper, you will probably end up with strawberries that stick and are difficult to remove from the pan.

✽ How important is it that the slices are even?

Pretty important! Thin even slices means an even baking time. Aim for uniform slices that are in between 1/8" to 1/4" thickness.

However, I'm not perfect so just naturally some of my slices are thicker or thinner than the others. No worries!

After flipping the strawberries over, it is important to check on the strawberries every 10-15 minutes to ensure they are not burning. The thinner slices will finish cooking first so remove them from the oven when they are dried and continue cooking the rest until all excess moisture is gone.

✽ Can I make these dried strawberries in my air fryer?

Yep, another easy way to make these strawberries is in the air fryer! Check out my air fryer dried strawberries recipe for all the details!

✽ How do you know when the strawberries are done baking?

The strawberry slices should be dried meaning that they are not soggy (no liquid & not sticky) and are able to stay firm when picked up.

✽ What is the texture of these dried strawberries?

These dry strawberries are slightly chewy! If you continue baking past this stage, the strawberry slices will turn a more brown color and get crispy. They still taste good like this, but I very much prefer the slightly chewy slices!

✽ How do I store these dried strawberries? How long are dried strawberries good for?

It is best to store these dried strawberries in an airtight container at room temperature. I like to store mine in a Mason jar or other glass jars.

Fully dehydrated foods can last for months (up to 6 months or longer). However, any moisture left in the strawberries can change how long they will keep. If you are unsure if all the moisture is out, only keep these strawberries for up to 5 days at room temperature.

Ingredients

• 1 pound strawberries

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180°F. *You can still make this recipe if your oven only goes down to 200°F, but the cooking time may be shorter. Keep a close eye on them so they don't burn.*
➋ Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut off the tops of the strawberries, and evenly slice into 1/8" to 1/4" thick slices. Place strawberry slices onto parchment paper lined baking sheet so that the slices do not touch each other. *You may need to use more than one baking sheet to fit all of the strawberries.*
Bake strawberries for 2 hours. Peel strawberry slices off of the parchment paper and flip each slice over. Return to oven and continue baking for 30 minutes to 2 hours, or until fully dried, checking them every 10-15 minutes.
*The time range is so wide because every oven is different, and the baking time also depends on the exact thickness of the slices. Some slices may finish drying before others. In this case, remove the fully dried slices when checking, and return the other slices to the oven until they are fully dried.*
