Sweet & Addicting Snack

I love all types of popcorn, and this sweet popcorn is no exception! You just cannot go wrong with the combination of chocolate and peanut butter.

However, my favorite part about this popcorn is the light sprinkling of sea salt on top. The saltiness with the sweetness is just perfect. This chocolate peanut butter popcorn is the perfect snack or dessert and is quick and easy to make. Also great for family movie nights or for when you are having a chocolate craving!

✽ Oil: A little bit of oil will help all those kernels pop without them burning first. I use vegetable oil when popping popcorn but pretty much any type of oil will work. Olive oil, canola oil, coconut oil, and peanut oil are good alternatives. Do not use butter because it will burn before all the kernels are popped.

✽ Popcorn Kernels: Freshly popped corn on the stove is just so much better than bagged popcorn and worth the little bit of extra effort. I use yellow popcorn kernels for this recipe.

✽ Semi-Sweet Chocolate: You can either melt semi-sweet chocolate bars or chocolate chips for this popcorn. You can also use dark chocolate chips if you prefer.

✽ Peanut Butter: I personally love using crunchy peanut butter for this popcorn. You get some bites of popcorn with peanuts, and that sweet crunch is so good! However, if crunchy peanut butter is not your thing, you can also use creamy peanut butter.

✽ Sea Salt: Lastly, I like to sprinkle on a little bit of sea salt for the perfect sweet and salty snack.

How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Popcorn

peanut butter chocolate popcorn ingredients

➊ Line a large rimmed baking sheet or cookie sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.

In a large saucepan (that has a lid), pour in 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and 2 yellow popcorn kernels. Place over medium heat until both of the kernels pop. Remove the pan from the heat (keep burner on), add in the rest of the kernels, and let sit off-heat for one minute.

Move pan back over medium heat. Loosely place the lid on top of the pan allowing the steam to escape. Continue cooking until popping stops, shaking the pan occasionally. Remove from heat and pour popcorn onto lined baking sheet. Discard any unpopped kernels.

*You can also use an air popper for this step.*

Peanut Butter Chocolate Popcorn Recipe: Questions

✽ Can I use dark chocolate to make this popcorn?

While semi-sweet chocolate is a good go-to when making chocolate covered popcorn, dark chocolate is also a delicious option! If you are using a dark chocolate bar, make sure to roughly chop the bar before melting in the microwave.

✽ Should I use crunch or smooth peanut butter?

Either one! I like to use crunchy peanut butter because I like to grab bites that include crunchy peanuts. It adds more texture to the mix.

✽ How can I make this snack less messy?

This popcorn can be a little messy to eat, but I promise it is worth the sticky fingers. In order to minimize the messy hands, store the popcorn in the fridge right up until serving to prevent the chocolate from melting.

✽ Chocolate Peanut Butter Popcorn Additions

This popcorn doesn't need additions to taste amazing, but they do make it a bit more fun! Throw in some Reese's pieces, M&Ms, or peanuts for some crunch.
