These Tootsie Roll shots taste just like a Tootsie Roll candy! They are made with creme de cacao, vanilla vodka, and orange juice. To make these shots extra fun, garnish with an actual Tootsie Roll. These shots are perfect for anybody with a sweet tooth and great for any party especially Halloween parties!

Tootsie Roll Shots Recipe

Tootsie roll in liquid shot form.

I couldn't hardly believe how much this shot tasted like the classic Tootsie Roll candy the first time I had it. Almost identical!

According to the Tootsie Roll website, Tootsie Rolls have a "cocoa taste, lined with a subtle, fruit-flavored undertone."

A classic Tootsie Roll shot contains creme de cacao and vodka with orange juice added in for that hint of orange flavor. However, I felt like using vanilla vodka made it taste even more like a Tootsie Roll.

This chocolatey and slightly fruity shots would be perfect for any candy lover or any party- especially Halloween parties since Tootsie Rolls are a Halloween candy favorite by many!

✽ Creme de Cacao: This chocolate liqueur will add in the chocolate flavor. Popular brands include Mr Stacks Creme de Cacao, Drillaud Creme de Cacao, and Dekuyper Creme de Cacao.

✽ Vanilla Vodka: Using vanilla-flavored vodka in these shots cuts down on the strong alcohol taste that plain vodka can have and adds in just a bit of vanilla making these shots taste even more like the real deal.

Good brands include Veil Vanilla Vodka, Smirnoff Vanilla Vodka, and Absolut Vanilla Vodka.

✽ Orange Juice: Adding in some orange juice brings out that fruity undertone that actual Tootsie Rolls have. Make sure you pick up pulp-free so you don't end up with a pulpy Tootsie Roll.

✽ Tootsie Rolls: Adding a Tootsie Roll to the rim of the shot glass is optional, but highly recommended because it makes these shots look so good!

How to Make Tootsie Roll Shots

➊ In a cocktail shaker, combine 0.5 ounces of creme de cacao, 0.5 ounces vanilla vodka, and 0.5 ounces orange juice with a couple of ice cubes. Shake until chilled, about 10 seconds.

If you skip the shaker part, you'll end up with a room temperature shot. It's not bad, but the chilled version is much better, in my opinion.

Tootsie Roll Shots: Questions & History

✽ History of the Tootsie Roll

According to Tootsie.com, Tootsie Rolls were invented by Leo Hirschfield in 1896. He named it for his daughter, Clara, whose nickname was 'Tootsie'. Back then the candies sold for one penny each!

By 1905, Tootsie Rolls are being made in a candy factory in New York City and were delivered by horse and buggy. In 1916, they upgraded to a Tootsie Roll Delivery Truck.

In 1931, the famous Tootsie Pops were created, and in 1970, Mr. Owl was born. In the next few decades, larger factories were built so lots more Tootsie Rolls could be made, and lots of new candies joined the Tootsie Roll Family.

✽ Can I use regular vodka?

Yep! You can use plain vodka- it's still good and tastes like a Tootsie Roll. However, I felt like the vanilla vodka made these shots taste even more like an actual Tootsie Roll.

✽ Different Versions

There are a number of ways this shot has been made over the years. Another popular way to make a Tootsie Roll Shot is to use equal parts of coffee-flavored liqueur and orange juice.

Simply, shake together 0.75 oz coffee liqueur and 0.75 oz orange juice in a cocktail shaker with some ice, and strain into a shot glass.
