A boozy spin on a cherry limeade. This cherry limeade cocktail is made with maraschino cherries, silver rum, lime juice, and ginger ale. This Red Rum cocktail tastes great while having a The Shining movie night!
• Black sugar, for rim
• 2-3 maraschino cherries, plus 1-2 more for garnish
• 2 ounces silver rum
• 1/2 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
• 4 ounces ginger ale
➊ If you want a black-colored sugar rim, run one of the lime wedges along the rim of the glass, and dip the top of the glass in a pile of the black-colored sugar. *See Notes section below for how to color sugar black.*
➋ In a cocktail shaker, muddle maraschino cherries.
➌ Pour in silver rum and lime juice. Add in a couple of ice cubes, and shake about 10 seconds until chilled.
➍ Strain into prepared cocktail glass with ice, and top with ginger ale. Garnish with extra maraschino cherries.
✽ Coloring sugar is easy! Ideally, you want a large grain sugar, but I usually just use regular sugar. Put about 1/4 cup of sugar in a jar (make sure you have a tight-fitting lid for it). Add in a couple drops of food coloring, put on the lid, and shake until the sugar is colored. Keep adding drops of food coloring until you have your desired color. For black sugar, I put a couple drops of blue, red, green, and yellow food coloring.
